On behalf of our client Eutopia Homes, we have secured a resolution to grant outline planning permission for 139 new homes with associated new public open spaces. This residential led regeneration of the former St John Fisher School in Chatham will contribute towards delivering much needed housing, whilst providing good quality design which responds positively to the surrounding context.
After many months of positive dialogue with Medway Council and local community engagement, Eutopia Homes in partnership with Chenavari Investment, are pleased that officers have recommended approval of this high-quality mixed housing scheme for this sustainable, previously developed site which will offer new residents easy access to public transport and local facilities in line with the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).
Opening up this 5.8-acre site which had previously offered only limited accessibility to the public, the proposals provided will enhance connectivity. Over an acre of high quality usable public open space will be created including natural play, open lawns, communal gardens as well as woodland and biodiversity zones. The design layout seeks to create a place for people. It will be a non-car dependent, pedestrian-friendly environment which will directly address the Climate Emergency by achieving a 63% reduction in carbon emissions by applying both energy efficiency and the use of renewables.
The proposal offers a substantial amount of much-needed family-sized homes in the urban area. They bring new diversity and innovation to Chatham in terms of the proposed ‘Build-to-Rent’ (BTR) tenures, offering professional on-site management of the properties and their linked public open space.
