Urban Splash Competition 2005

Description Inspired by the beauty of Morecambe Bay, our design envisaged a series of grass covered ‘sand dunes’, the arrangement of which would allow for views out to the bay from the heart of the site and create a varied and interesting sequence of spaces and connections between the town, hotel and seashore. A series of prefabricated holiday pods would sit on top of the large, open and flexible ‘dune’ structures. These would vary in size, from 1 bed units to linked pods to create larger family units with the quality of a Four star hotel standard. The site would be a car free zone; luggage, food and linen can be delivered via buggies that can drive along the boardwalks over the ‘dunes’. Our aim was to create a truly unique holiday experience. In this competition, Darling Associates were short listed from 102 entries into the final 6.
