For Christmas 2005 the practice, by then 17 strong, flew up to Edinburgh. A tour of the new parliament building and the Scottish museum was followed by a late lunch and present giving, before the flight home, about which not much can be remembered. In January Kate, Richard and Chris went to Morecambe and although the competition was not won, the practice was proud to make the final three and to enjoy some architectural recognition at last. Lood finished Manresa Road for Candy and Candy, whilst turning round numerous bids for Welbeck Land and completed 57 units for George Wimpey at Brighton and the Clapham project for Phoenix. Ralph was busy at Boundary Road and Embassy Court assisted by Adrian Poon who joined from his previous practice. In April 2006, the practice completed its third year and turnover rose to £1.6m, after figures of £435k and £930k for the preceding years. Cynthia Gliati joined and was quickly told to change her name to Valia – quite why no one can remember! As the 2006 World Cup approached there was news that the cherished offices at New Cavendish Street had been sold and it was time to move on. Chris trudged for weeks round numerous offices in the West End before knocking on the door of Greencoat House in Francis Street, Victoria. A deal was struck and on the 1st July 2006 the team, by now some 21 strong moved in. A memorable leaving party was held in the Ship. In the autumn of 2006 our clients Phoenix announced that they would be building the Croydon Tower and a working drawing team was recruited. Douglas Black joined from Hamiltons to work with Lood and made his mark on the Fenchurch Street project. The Christmas party involved skating in the rain along with lunch, Karaoke and the pub. Spring 2007 saw a restructuring of the management team with Kate and Warren joining Chris, Lood, Ralph and Martin as directors and Carla and Douglas being promoted to Associates. |
