Lood graduated in architecture from the University of Pretoria in South Africa in 1996. He worked for a medium sized practice in Pretoria on mainly private residential projects before relocating to London, where he joined Hamilton Associates in 1997.

At Hamiltons, Lood designed a variety of buildings including industrial, residential, office and mixed use. Most prominently he was involved in No. 1 Plough Place, a six storey city office block, and a £3.5m speculative office building for Welbeck Land in Fleet. He also saw through to completion an industrial scheme for Chancerygate in Langley and obtained planning permission for a new £6m office building at 111 Cannon Street.
