Mottram Hall

Transformation of Mottram Hall into Champneys Spa and Hotel

The £15m transformation of Mottram Hall has involved the major expansion and redevelopment of the grade II* listed hotel, including a revamp of the reception, champagne bar and garden room.

The original Mottram estate dates back to 1310, but the hall itself was built in 1721. It was converted to a hotel in 1940 and in 2018, Champneys took over the 18th century mansion. Today, the estate features a hotel, spa and golf course, completed with formal gardens surrounded by 270 acres of parkland.

Darling Associates prepared the overall masterplan for the spa, gym, reception and 20m swimming pool, as well as the restaurant and studio facilities at first floor.

The new spa facilities include a 20m pool with poolside cabanas, as well as saunas, salt steam room, ice fountain, monsoon and drench showers, and a cold room.

Alongside the 15 treatment rooms, the expanded development features a beauty lounge and the UK’s first Champneys barber shop.
