The brief was to refurbish this Grade II listed 3* Tudor mansion hotel to 5* status and add 20 new bedrooms, 7 treatment rooms, pool, sauna and steam and experience showers. This was an opportunity to remove the poorly designed elements, repair and refurbish derelict sections and design new rooms espousing the historic value of the hotel, alongside external spaces to link new and old together. Externally all elevations were important. By separating support functions, the original building now stands surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens. Within six months of the work being completed the hotel won 2 travel industry awards; the World Travel Award for leading Country House Hotel in the UK and Leading Spa Hotel in the UK.
