Planning consent has been secured from the London Borough of Westminster for a pioneering new bar venue which will be situated on the rooftop of the landmark Edwardian Grade II listed Trocadero in London’s West End.

The Skybar incorporates a circa 17,500 sq. ft. venue, including a covered bar and a restaurant, as well as a 4,500 sq. ft. outdoor terrace and swimming pool, which will crown a planned 740 room hotel, also being developed by Criterion Capital. It will create a new leisure destination for this prime central London location.
In addition to the architectural design of the bar and terrace area, Darling Associates is responsible for the street level entrance on Shaftesbury Avenue, and vertical circulation in the building.
Damion Burrows, Director, Darling Associates, comments, “We’re thrilled that this striking new leisure destination has achieved planning consent. Central London greatly under utilises its roof top assets that have the potential to offer fantastic views and light right in the heart of the city. What makes this development all the more special is that there are no comparable sized roof top venue spaces in the West End, so we are looking forward to delivering a memorable venue that will ably compete with other rooftop experiences across the capital.
“The design concept is composed of angular and expressive forms, creating a simple yet very striking architectural geometry. The exterior references a classic mansard roof, with visible façades wrapped in seamed zinc, and at a glance complementing the nearby mansard rooftops. The south facing façade opens up to a rooftop terrace that’s offers iconic vistas across London. Careful consideration also ensures that light emissions from the venue will be reduced at the street level vistas, ensuring a minimal visual impact especially after dark along Piccadilly.”
Darling Associates is also working for Criterion Capital on the Park Mansions development in Knightsbridge.
